In an era where the professional and digital worlds intersect, safeguarding your career involves more than just mastering your field. Join us for an insightful event where industry experts delve into the crucial aspects of protecting yourself legally, ethically and online (including social media). Speakers will discuss:
  • Understanding contracts, intellectual property rights and employment agreement
  • Navigating legal challenges in the workplace and industry-specific regulations
  • Identifying and resolving ethical conflicts in your career
  • Balancing personal values with professional obligations
  • Mitigating reputational risks on social media platforms

Sue Serna, CEO & Founder, Serna Social
Sue Serna is the founder and CEO of Serna Social, a social media consulting agency focused on social media governance, risk, security and strategy. Sue is one of the nation’s top experts on social media safety and spent nearly nine years leading the global social media program for Cargill, one of the largest private companies in the United States. Sue pioneered many industry best practices that the world’s largest companies use to keep their social media footprints safe. In addition, Sue is an accomplished social media trainer and an established communicator with a passion for creating compelling content. In 2021, Sue was named to the National Institute for Social Media’s Advisory Committee, a role in which she continues to proudly serve today.


Jenny Gratson, Senior Vice President, People, Weber Shandwick
Jenny Gratson is a seasoned HR leader with over two decades of experience across various industries. Currently serving as the Senior Vice President, People at Weber Shandwick, Jenny is a dedicated advocate for creating dynamic and engaging employee experiences. With a track record of success at prestigious organizations such as Limited Brands, Rolf Jensen & Associates and Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, Jenny has spearheaded modernized talent strategies, fueled business goals through recruitment and talent development, and championed diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

An alumna of Loyola University and Indiana University, Jenny holds a Master of Science in Human Resources, a Bachelor of Science in Business with concentrations in Management and International Studies, and PHR and GPHR certifications.


Scott Blake, Attorney, Felhaber Larson
Scott Blake is an attorney at the Felhaber Larson law firm in Minneapolis who specializes in employment law. He frequently provides advice and counsel to businesses on employment law issues, including the FMLA, ADA, FLSA and discrimination statutes, drafting employment handbooks, workplace policies and employment agreements, and investigating and disciplining employees. He also works with businesses and individuals in drafting and negotiating executive compensation agreements and non-compete agreements so that his clients’ customer relationships, confidential information, trade secrets and business interests are adequately protected.

Joel Swanson, APR, MACT, Vice President of Marketing, Affinity Plus
Joel Swanson, APR, MACT, leads marketing and corporate communications for Affinity Plus, including overseeing the Affinity Plus Foundation. A proud member of PRSA since 1991, Joel was talked into joining as a student by Kelly Groehler among others, and helped Kelly put together the student chapter newsletter, under the leadership of Dr. R. John DeSanto who passed away in February and for whom the St. Cloud State University chapter is named. Joel credits PRSA with helping him grab his first internship, earn his first job and step up his career ladder into strategic and leadership roles. “The great practitioners, strategists and leaders in the Minnesota Chapter have made all the difference for my career,” he says.

Entering his sixth year at Affinity Plus, Joel has built an integrated function of a dozen mighty practitioners who continue to drive record new member and financial growth through fresh branding, data-driven automated marketing, market-dominating digital marketing execution and a modern community engagement strategy. Previously, Joel held strategic leadership roles at UnitedHealth Group, Risdall Marketing Group and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. He’s a member of PRSA’s Banking and Finance Section, the Minnesota Credit Union Network and Callahan & Associates Marketing Roundtable. Joel’s career spans more than 30 years of guiding communications and marketing strategy in highly regulated, fast-changing industries. In his personal time, Joel fights for space in the back yard to play catch with his four sons while fending off affection from the family’s 260 pounds of dog (a Saint Bernard and a Newfoundland).
